Realize
Sitting in or out
Does it really matter?
An instant. All around
All feelings scatter
so lightly, on the ground.
One moment revealed
What Eternity protected
With distance, concrete, steel
But could no longer conceal
The light within, reflected
On another face; another soul
Contemplating the magic therein bestowed.
Recognizing oneself in an alien:
Such precarious certainty!
Delicious gift to some men
Who look, listen and see
Past the visible and the present,
The mocking, superficial lesson
To discover a well, this one timeless
Bottomless and infinite:
Kindness.

You might have to give me a hand to understand this one...
Why, Carl, you're the lit crit. You tell me. Isn't it true that a poem is often finished and understood better by the reader than by its author?
